Paying It Forward

5/29/2013

We’ve been blown away by the kindness and generosity of our supporters! Not only are we getting closer to reaching our target to raise 40,000nis for an eye clinic catered for the underprivileged population, but
we’ve been instrumental in Paying It Forward. Our recent crowdfunding campaign has raised over 33,000nis. How did we do it? We created the campaign so that donors would give and get, i.e. give a donation to RE-SPECS Frames for the Needy and get a perk valued at up to 50% of the donation. And then a unique thing happened. Some of our donors asked that we Pay It Forward, meaning that the
perks that they’d won be donated onward to a person in need in our community. Isn’t that SPEC-tacular?

RE-SPECS, a Visionary at the Sustainability Fair

Remember the 3 Rs of the waste hierarchy? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Well, RE-SPECS’ culture of waste reduction and sustainability proved its worth at the recent Sustainability Fair, a Raanana municipality initiative, on May 8th at Raanana’s bustling Yad LeBanim. Following our success at the Amutot Fair earlier in the week, RE-SPECS was invited by the municipality to join the equally popular Sustainability Fair during the Community, Social Responsibility & Environment Awareness Week. Reducing and reusing (1 and 2 of the waste hierarchy) are key components of RE-SPECS’ philosophy, as opposed to “recycling”, which entails energy to re-form the product for reuse. In keeping with the concept of zero waste, we ensure that glasses frames are salvaged and repaired or refurbished where possible, thus extending their lifetime to their threshold maximum period of usage. The Sustainability Fair enabled us to raise awareness of sustainable culture among the general public and to promote interest in tapping into the resource of reusable glasses frames for the benefit of Israel’s underprivileged. Our presence contributed greatly to the colorful, potent atmosphere of the occasion, and propelled us to the forefront of those advocating a more sustainable future for our community.

Community, Social Responsibility & Environment Awareness Week: May 5-9

When it comes to social issues like the environment, nature,
hi-tech advances and giving to our community, there's no question that Raanana leads the way! And what better way to combine them all than to hold a communal event of 30 non-profit organizations, each one proudly manning a booth at the
Amutot Fair. The fair, sponsored by the Raanana municipality, took place on May 5th in the beautiful grounds of the industrial area's Hi-Tech Park. RE-SPECS Frames for the Needy volunteers were there in full force, including volunteer photographer Orli Landau. Armed with her state-of-the-art equipment, Orli recorded the highlights of the day: exposure about what RE-SPECS does and is aiming to achieve, collection of donated glasses for people in need and the sale of new and surplus sunglasses to raise funds for RE-SPECS’ projects.
